If you think it is okay to cat-call women, you are a piece of shit and I will fight you. If you think you can stand by and watch other men oppress women, you are a piece of shit and I will fight you.
I will fight rape culture until I die.
If you see me walking down the street and think I look pretty, feel free to tell me.
There’s a difference between walking up to someone and saying “you look wonderful today” and “damn woman, you thick as hell. Yeah, id like to fuck that.” If you think that the first example is more likely to happen to you when you invite people to come harass you on the street, you’re wrong.
Cat calls are not “your hair is pretty”, “your dress looks great”. Actual cat calls and sexual harassment are not from people who think anything about you is beautiful. They think you’re an object. Not even a pretty object. A “I guess I’d put my dick in it” object. They use you to remind themselves that they are above women.
And unfortunately, if you don’t want bad things to happen to women, this is not an issue where you can have a different opinion. Every time you accept a cat call or any form of sexual harassment, it encourages men to continue to harass women and reinforces sexual assault and rape culture. Every time you let some guy call at you, another woman dies trying to defend herself.
Thanks man :)
*for those of you who don’t know, I have pink hair now!*
Some guy called over to me from a car when I was walking down the side walk to class this morning. I thought he needed directions or something so I took out my ear buds and walked over to see what he needed. He was mumbling and looking towards the ground so I only made out what I though to be “how did you do that to your hair” and I answered nicely but he kept saying the same mumbling sounds and looking at the ground like I didnt answer the question correctly. So I asked if he could repeat himself one more time and he stared directly at my crotch and clearly said “is it pink down there?” And his buddy starts laughing from the driver seat. I wanted to cry so bad but I couldn’t. I just walked away. For me, this is probably the most direct and insulting sexual harassment I’ve gotten in a long time.
If you think it is appropriate to harass women like this to impress your friends, I feel sorry for you. I feel sorry because your life and friendships must be so terrible and pointless for you to actually feel good and get a kick out dehumanizing another human being. You must be the saddest, loneliest man on this planet and I can only hope that one day, you might like yourself enough to treat others with respect.
